The BELTA speech competition - part 2 of 2.

Today is THE BELTA SPEECH COMEPTITION!!! OK, don't panic!! I must not panic at this baffling situation. I got dressed up and took my breakfast, to recoup all my wasted energy. I only slept for just 6 hours because I barely got any sleep last night. I had time to listen to the songs stored in my tiny orange iPod Nano, and also, I memorized all of the contents of the speech, although I was supplied with a small blue card, filled with important contents to accompany me later on the stage. Before all of this, I was asked to perform at the prize presentation ceremony in my school on the 24th february (i think!!) and thoroughly I received mixed comments. Some were extremely positive, some were positive, some were fair and some were negative(mostly from teachers, but who cares of what they think???)

So, I arrived at school at 7.20 am, and I waited in the car with my dad, waiting for the arrival of Cg. Hizatul. Once she arrived, she took me to Jabatan Penerangan, where the competition will be held. It was a brught Friday morning, surely there are no signs of raining yet. When I got inside the stadium, I saw many students from different schools. It was very cool and unexpected, and suddenly, I felt energetic again. I made friends with this nice, tall guy from the  quintessential Science school. He was so funny, although his style of talking was a bit androgynous.

When the competition begins, I felt cold, not because of the air-con but I think I felt so nervous. The first part of the competition was a bit good, with 15 students performing, mostly the contestants were girls. After the first 15 students performed, it was time for a break for the students and teachers. I didn't eat anything, instead I drank a lot of water, just to make sure my voice was loud and clear. I went to the bathroom and saw a large mirror. I practiced in front of it, and suddenly, the student from the Science school barged in the toilet. We shared a moment of laughter and we made comments of the first 15 performances. He was very nice and talkative and his name was Hafiz. It was time for the second part of the competition, where the last 16 students will perform including me!!! OH NO!!!

The speeches performed by the rest of the students before me were all boring and insipid, except for Hafiz, although he broke some of the rules, especially moving from one place to another. We were advised to stand still, and avoid moving. But he was funny though, and he acted like a stand-up comedian. Then, my name was called out to perform. Ok now, Mirul, relax, don't be panic!!! I scurried my way to the stage, while Hafiz gave me two thumbs up as a support. So, there I was, standing on the stage in front of about 150 people. I just spoke out the words that I've memorized and what made me shocked was that they were entertained. I was given a big applause from the crowds, the first time of the day. I felt flabbergasted by them and I swoofed away from the stage. I hope all the students are not jealous of me.

Then, it was time for the president of BELTA to announce the 8 finalists. The first 4 names came from Yayasan School, St. James, Menglait School and Sayyidina Ali. I already know that I wasn't going to the final, but then my name was called as the fifth student who goes through to the final. YEAH!!!!! I DID IT!!!!! MY BIGGEST DREAM HAVE COME TRUE!!! I just stood there on the stage and smiled at the audiences. Oops, I did it again!!!!
